Traditional Kullu Valley Dress
On this pilgrimage
to the world's greatest mountains, we explore the diversity of Himalayan
Hinduism and Tibetan Buddhism and the reflection of these spiritual
traditions in contemporary village life. Our encounters in the
exquisite Himachal Pradesh valleys of Kangra and Kullu take us to temples,
monasteries, nunneries, craft centers and folk festivals.
Our journey includes three days in Dharamsala, residence of Tibet's leader-in-exile, His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Later, we travel to Naggar to the sacred land of Nikolai and Helena Roerich, Russian artists and mystics who lived here for two decades from the 1920s.

This tour is a wonderful introduction to Indian and Tibetan cultures. It takes you off the beaten tourist track and immerses you in the vibrant colors, sights and sounds of village and small-town life. I have traveled here for almost 20 years and made deep friendships with Indians and Tibetans who will welcome you to their homes. Although there are opportunities for optional day-long treks, the program does not require extensive walking.
